Zukunft Bestand
Zukunft Bestand is a holistic concept for the ecological and socially inclusive renovation of existing housing complexes. Based on two case studies in Vienna and Linz, the shows how 20 measures – concrete, scalable and replicable – preserve and improve what already exists, carefully integrate anything new and use resources sensibly.
These two housing complexes are exemplary of typical construction methods of the 20th century – brick construction of the 1920s to 1950s and prefabricated reinforced concrete construction of the 1960s and 1970s. The eco-social transformation – presented at the scales of territory, settlement, building and detail – is therefore applicable to a large number of housing complexes in Austria and beyond. The book thus serves as a template for actual renovation projects and thereby for the rapid and holistic improvement of existing housing complexes.
