A versatile community
An unbuilt area surrounded by buildings at a busy intersection near Linz is to be developed into a new town centre.
The aim of the project is to translate the given programme of event centre, commerce, housing and mobility into robust buildings and differentiated open spaces, thus creating a resilient neighbourhood.
The new community centre is oriented towards the intersection and thus highly visible, offers space for public use and a view over the neighbourhood and beyond. The mobility hub with workshop, sharing and parking serves the entire neighbourhood, promotes intermodality, avoids underground car parks and complements a new bike highway and the pedestrian-friendly redesigned intersection.
Commercial buildings and a workshop offer workplaces. Housing in quiet locations next to an urban wilderness, pergola grove and vegetable garden is designed for young and assisted living. Four storeys support timber construction and a connection to the outdoors on ground level. Densely planted trees at the edge of the neighbourhood act as green filter and retention area.
